Coloboma, Staphyloma, and Cataract of the Left Eye

SKU: C06002

This exhibit compares normal left eye anatomy to an eye with coloboma, staphyloma, and a cataract. Coloboma is a congenital defect of the eye, caused by the failed closure of the choroid fissure before birth. In this particular case, it presents as a hole in the choroid, retina, lens, and iris. A large staphyloma (abnormal protrusion of the sclera) is present in the macular region of the posterior chamber, and cataract development can be seen in the lens.
