Male Left Lobectomy vs. Total Thyroidectomy

SKU: S09035

This exhibit compares the intra-op conditions of a thyroid lobectomy versus a total thyroidectomy. The thyroid is a large endocrine gland in the anterior neck which produces a variety of hormones and helps regulate metabolism. A thyroid lobectomy is the removal of one lobe of the thyroid gland to treat benign conditions of the thyroid, such as hyperthyroidism and thyroid nodules. A total thyroidectomy is the removal of the entire thyroid gland. This is used to treat more serious conditions such as thyroid cancer, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, severe goiter, and symptomatic obstruction of the airways.
