Head Impalement with Brain Hematoma and Repair
This exhibit features two axial CT renditions highlighting the effects of head impalement. The mechanism of injury is demonstrated at the center of the exhibit with a foreign body entering the left frontal cortex. Resulting injuries, shown in the pre-op image, consist of an acute subdural hematoma, left to right midline shift, left frontal cortex injury, and subfalcine herniation. Post-operative conditions include a left frontal craniotomy, subdural hematoma evacuation, loculated fluid collections at the craniotomy site, pneumocephalus, left cerebral edema, and a left temporal lobe abscess.
