ORIF of Penetrating Brain and Ocular Orbito-Frontal Injuries
This exhibit details the open reduction and internal fixation to the severe injuries of the skull, brain, left eye and optic nerves. The comminuted fractures to the left orbit with associated brain herniation were reconstructed with bone grafts and plates. The left eye dislodged downward into the maxillary sinus was anatomically repositioned, with the displaced fracture of the right medial orbital wall reconstructed with bone grafting. The torn and macerated ocular muscles were debrided, as well as the lacerations to the upper and lower eyelids. The frontal sinus was cranialized and fixated with a pate. The axial illustration depicts the evacuation to the large hematoma in the left orbit with debrided frontal brain contusions, bilateral optic nerve damage and patches over the dural defects.
