This exhibit depicts a child undergoing a left craniotomy. An incision is made according to the subgaleal hematoma. The subgaleal hematoma is removed, as are skull fracture fragments with significant brain matter herniating through the defect. A craniotomy flap is created along the fracture line, and surface bleeding of the brain parenchyma is controlled with bipolar forceps. DuraGen is used to treat dural lacerations, and bone fragments are pieced together and secured with Stryker Leibinger plates. A Jackson-Pratt drain is inserted into the subgaleal space, and a pressure monitor is inserted into the right frontal region.
