Skull Fractures and Brain Injuries
This exhibit depicts the axial and lateral conditions of the head with skull fractures and resulting brain damage. A right comminuted, depressed, parieto-temporal skull fracture is seen, both laterally and axially, compressing the brain. The axial section depicts a large scalp hematoma surrounding the injury, a subdural hematoma, diffuse brain edema, ventricle compression, midline shift, a tentorial hematoma, and placement of a drainage shunt. There are also scattered hemorrhagic contusions seen in the frontal, temporal, and parietal lobes.
