Arthroscopic Surgery of the Left TMJ
Demonstrated in this exhibit are four steps of an arthroscopic surgery of the left TMJ. The first step displays the arthroscope in place to visualize the TMJ. An arthroscopic examination of the TMJ is then illustrated through a cross section viewed from above. Injuries include: a wall scar band, slightly medially positioned disc, and chondromalacia involving the posterior slope of the eminence. The third step involves using the scope to release the scar band. The future condition is shown as the fourth step, demonstrating a total replacement of the temporomandibular joint.
