Esophagram Findings and Right Recurrent Laryngeal Nerve Anatomy
This exhibit depicts the findings of an esophagram, axial anatomy of the throat, and right recurrent laryngeal nerve anatomy. Esophagram findings include Hashimoto’s thyroiditis (autoimmune disease that gradually destroys the thryoid gland) and a hiatal hernia of the esophagus. An axial section of the throat shows an unimpinged esophagus, trachea, inferior thyroid artery, recurrent laryngeal nerve, and thyroid gland. Surgical exposure of the anterior throat shows the right recurrent laryngeal nerve and inferior thyroid artery coursing posterior to the thyroid gland.
