This exhibit depicts a C4-5 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion with bone graft. The procedure begins with the placement of Gardner Wells tongs to provide longitudinal cervical traction. An incision is made over the anterior neck, the anterior spine is exposed, and the C4-5 disc herniation is removed. Bilateral foraminotomies are then performed to decompress the cervical nerve roots. The vertebral endplates are decorticated with a high speed drill, and bone graft is impacted into the disc space. Lastly, the fusion is stabilized with the placement of an anterior cervical plate and screws.
