This exhibit depicts the placement of a right posterior ventriculo – peritoneal shunt to drain excess cerebrospinal fluid into the peritoneal cavity. First, a cannula is inserted into the left ventricle of the brain and connected to a drainage tube. This tube is then passed under the scalp toward the ear. Next, a second tube is introduced behind the ear, and passed beneath the skin into the peritoneal cavity. Lastly, a pressure regulated valve is connected to both drainage tubes, and placed subcutaneously behind the ear.
