This exhibit depicts the intra-op condition of a thyroid lobectomy. The thyroid is a large endocrine gland in the anterior neck which produces a variety of hormones and helps regulate metabolism. A thyroid lobectomy is the removal of one lobe of the thyroid gland. This is often used to treat conditions such as hyperthyroidism, goiter, thyroiditis, and thyroid nodules.
