Left Hand Soft Tissue Injuries and Repairs

The client sustained a crush injury resulting in severe damage to the soft tissue of the left dorsal hand. The extensor indicis proprius and extensor digitorum communis muscles have been transected. The posterior interosseous nerve has been injured, as well as the extensor at the fifth proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint. Post-operatively, the extensor mechanism and extensor at the fifth PIP joint have been repaired with sutures. The laceration over the fifth finger was closed, and the posterior interosseous nerve was resected. A sponge has been put directly in the wound, and a wound VAC device has been placed over the damaged soft tissue to promote healing.
