This exhibit depicts an open capsular shift to repair laxity of the shoulder joint capsule. This joint capsule is a ligamentous structure that provides static support to the shoulder joint. Laxity of the capsule can cause multidirectional instability of the glenohumeral joint, increasing the frequency of shoulder subluxation. An incision is made over the anterior shoulder, the joint capsule is exposed, and fibrotic tissues are debrided. A "T" shaped capsulotomy incision creates two capsular flaps. The flaps are then overlapped and secured with sutures.
