This exhibit depicts a C6-7 anterior cervical discectomy with the placement of an artificial disc. The procedure begins with the placement of Gardner Wells tongs to provide longitudinal cervical traction. An incision is made over the anterior neck, the anterior spine is exposed, and the C6-7 disc herniation is removed. Bilateral foraminotomies are then performed to decompress the cervical nerve roots. The vertebral endplates are decorticated with a high speed drill, and an artificial disc is impacted into the disc space.
