This exhibit shows the steps of a posterior occipital cervical fusion fused through C3. The client is situated in the prone position on the operating table, and the cervical neck is put into traction. An incision was made on the posterior neck, and hardware from a previous surgery was removed. Pedicle screws are inserted at C3, and an occipital plate is screwed into the base of the skull. Rods are placed and secured with screws, and the skull base and C1-C3 lamina are decorticated. Bone graft is placed over the decortication to promote a successful fusion.
