The surgical steps of a thoracic percutaneous vertebral augmentation are enumerated in this exhibit. This procedure was performed due to a loss of vertebral height at T10 caused by a prior compression fracture. First, an access needle is passed through the posterior back and into the T10 pedicle. A bone biopsy is then taken from the vertebral body. A void is created within the T10 vertebral body with a drill and curettes. Next, a balloon is inserted into the vertebral body and inflated. Finally, bone cement is injected into the void created by the inflated balloon.
