Proposed Decompression of Chiari Malformation

SKU: C03025

This exhibit depicts the steps of a procedure used to relieve symptoms caused by the aggravation of a Chiari malformation. First, a surgical incision is made over the base of the skull and the upper cervical spine. A portion of the skull base is then extracted. Next, a laminectomy is performed on the C1 vertebra, after which the dura is incised and opened. Finally, a synthetic patch is placed over the dura and sutured in place to increase the CSF space.
