This exhibit shows the mechanism of a retrobulbar injection injury. A retrobulbar injection, also known as a retrobulbar block, is used to administer anesthesia before intraocular surgery. The improper position of the needle resulted in penetration of the optic nerve, and the injury caused post-operative swelling and a pale, irritated optic disc.
