Right Arm Compartment Syndrome and Subsequent Decompression Fasciotomy
Right arm compartment syndrome and a decompression fasciotomy are represented in this exhibit by three cross section illustrations and a palmar view of the forearm. The first cross section depicts the three separate compartments of the right forearm. The second shows a brachial hematoma caused by an elbow dislocation. Increased swelling intensifies pressure, and restricts the neurovascular structures of the arm. The third cross section displays the hematoma evacuation and decompressive fasciotomy. The palmar view of the forearm demonstrates the length of the fasciotomy incision, and decompression of the median nerve.
