Right Hand Degloving Injury, Crush Fractures, and Amputation
This exhibit depicts the results of a traumatic crush injury to the right hand. Soft tissue injuries include degloving of the right hand, severe right-sided muscle contusions, and grossly disrupted tendons to five digits. The index and middle fingers have been traumatically amputated. Comminuted fractures of the first, second, and third metacarpals can be seen. The phalanges of the thumb have been dislocated and pulverized. The trapezium has been dislocated, and there is a fracture to the capitate at the third carpometacarpal joint. There are also fractures to the fourth proximal phalangeal base and fourth metacarpal base.
