This exhibit depicts the intra-op condition of a total thyroidectomy. The thyroid is a large endocrine gland in the anterior neck which produces a variety of hormones and helps regulate metabolism. A total thyroidectomy is the removal of the entire thyroid gland. This is used to treat serious conditions such as thyroid cancer, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, severe goiter, and symptomatic obstruction of the airways.
