This exhibit depicts the injuries sustained by a gunshot wound to the chest. An anterior view of the thorax details the trajectory of the bullet through the chest, with its final resting place in the left lung. A right pneumothorax and hemorrhage in the right lung required emergency placement of two chest tubes. The gunshot also caused a burst fracture of the T4 vertebra. Bullet and bone fragments severely compress the spinal cord, resulting in paralysis.
