This exhibit depicts three conditions of the left eye and nasolacrimal duct. Under normal circumstances, tears flow over the eye and empty into the lacrimal canaliculi at the medial corner. The lacrimal canaliculi then connect to the nasolacrimal duct, which travels through the skull into the nasal cavity. The pre-op condition shows traumatic obstruction of the nasolacrimal duct by a facial fracture. Surgical repair was accomplished through a dacryocystorhinostomy, which consists of placing connective tubes between the lacrimal canaliculi and nasal cavity for drainage.
