Description: This exhibit depicts the sagittal anatomy of the optic disc in the eye. The optic disc, also known as the physiological blind spot, is where the retinal nerve fibers bundle together and exit the eye to form the optic nerve. The optic nerve is responsible for transmitting all visual stimuli to the brain for processing. The central retinal vessels travel through the center of the optic nerve and enter the eye through the optic cup, a depression at the center of the optic disc.
