Surgical Removal of Ethmoid Sinuses

This exhibit depicts the axial anatomy of the ethmoid sinuses and ethmoid sinus removal. Axially, the ethmoid sinuses, eyes, opic nerves, and ocular muscles can be seen. Ethmoid sinus removal surgery is performed as a treatment for acute sinusitis, nasal polyps, and other chronic conditions of the sinuses. Forceps are advanced into the ethmoid sinuses via a transnasal approach. The ethmoid sinuses are carefully removed bilaterally, opening the sinus cavity, and decreasing inflammation.
