Thoracic and Lumbar Spinal Fusion Surgery

SKU: C23004

This exhibit depicts the steps of a thoracic and lumbar spinal fusion surgery. First, an incision is made over the posterior thoracic spine and extended inferiorly to the sacrum. Hardware from a prior L3-L5 fusion is removed, and the posterior and lateral bony elements of the exposed thoracic and lumbar vertebrae are decorticated with a burr. Pedicle screws are then placed bilaterally from T11-L5. Next, a laminotomy at L2 is performed. Bone graft is harvested from the right iliac crest and packed into the decorticated lateral gutters. Rods and set screws are placed to secure the fusion from T11-L5.
