C6-7 Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion with PEEK Prosthesis

This exhibit illustrates a C6-7 anterior cervical discectomy and fusion to remedy a large disc herniation with spinal canal impingement. The procedure begins with a transverse anterior incision over the neck, placement of Cloward retractors, and insertion of a disc spreader between C6 and C7. Anterior bone spurs were removed, a C6-7 discectomy was performed, and the vertebral endplates were rasped down to bleeding bone. Next, a PEEK cervical prosthesis was packed with bone graft and placed into the prepared disc space. An anterior cervical plate was then secured to the spine with screws.
